Pulau Tioman Travel Guide

Tioman Island is located in the South China Sea, on the Eastern side of the Malaysia. It is the largest of the Malaysia's sixty four volcanic archipelagos. There is a legend that says that this island was once used to be a dragon princess that transformed herself into an island.

The white beaches and the clear sea water of Tioman Island are the two main reasons why Tioman Island attracts many tourists every year. Hotels around Tekek, Genting, and Salang, which are the main villages on this island can boast of some of the best beaches and resorts in the world. Thanks to these great beaches and the clear sea water, Tioman Island is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful islands in the world.

The Tioman Island is well connected to the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, through daily flights. The airline companies that ensure this are Pelangi Air and Berjaya Air. Berjaya Air also connects the Tioman Island to Singapore. Tourists, if they wish, can also reach Tioman Island via ferries from Singapore.

Speed boats and speed ferries also connect Tioman Island to Mersing.

As Tioman Island is located in the tropical area, the climate here is similar to other places in Malaysia and Singapore. The weather is hot and the humidity is high pretty much throughout the year. The lowest temperatures rarely go below 70 degrees (or 20 degrees Celsius), at night, while during the day the temperature is usually more than 90 degrees (or 30 degrees Celsius). The rainy season at Tioman Island starts from December and ends in the month of February. During the rainy season, rainfalls are more or less a daily affair.

The best time to visit Tioman Island is between May and October, when the weather is favorable. During these months, even the water temperature is optimum and therefore, is ideal for many water related activities. Two such popular activities at Tioman Island are swimming and scuba diving.

The Salang beach is most preferred beach amongst the scuba divers at Tioman Island.

The islands of Tulai and Renggis which are close to Tioman Island are also sometimes preferred by tourists for scuba diving. If you are planning to visit Tioman Island it is recommended that you take an underwater camera so that you can take some breathtaking shots from under the water.

While at Tioman Island, tourists can choose between walking or renting a bicycle.

The bicycle rents are usually very cheap; about 5 RM per hour. There are also bikes which are available for rent as well. Obviously bike rents are much higher than the bicycle rents.

Most of the places of interest at the Tioman Island are located in the Tekek village. The airplanes land in this village and the majority of the important buildings, such as the police station, the hospital, the offices of the local authorities, the government offices and the mosque can be found here.

For interested tourists, the village also offers trekking options between Tekek village and Juara village. There are some beautiful waterfalls which acts an incentive for many tourists to go for this trekking. For the purpose of trekking it is recommended that tourists carry with them a bottle of potable water, a towel, camera and swim suits. Also recommended are insect repellent solutions.

The highest mountain on Tioman Island is the Kajang Mountain. The Mentawak River flows from this mountain and it makes the scenario all the more picture perfect. Furthermore, the best beach of the Tioman Island, Kampung Juara is also very close to this mountain.

Tioman Island has many exciting things to offer to those who enjoy water related activities. It is probably one of the best places to spend one's vacation.

So next time when you feel like taking a vacation and go to a far off place that is close to the seas then you know exactly where to go.
