Transportation within Putrajaya
If you want to come to Putrajaya, there is only one choice for you: KLIA Transit connecting Kuala Lumpur's Central train station to its airport, which stops halfway in between at Putrajaya. This train runs every 30 minutes and takes around20 minutes and the list price is around RM 9.50 one-way.
If you want to come by Taxi, you will have to spend around RM 50 from Kuala Lumpur.
To move around in Putrajaya, note that there are not much facilities and you may have to wait for the buses for some time. Occasional Nadiputra buses come about from the train station at random times, but your best bet is probably to enquire at KLIA or KL Central about organized tours.
It is clear that there is not much of the local transportation and it is better if you inquire for the whole tour in advance; otherwise, you and the visitors there have to do the bargaining head-to-head without any good advice from anyone!
History of Putrajaya
This city has recently picked its spot among the major cities of Malaysia, and therefore, there is not much of a history.
Malaysia actually began to build a new Federal Administrative Centre away from Kuala Lumpur some time ago.
There were many sites that came into fore and after much deliberation and thought, it was settled on the southern Prang Besar district of Selangor state in June 1993.
The project was launched in 1995, naming it after and in memory of Malaysia's first prime minister, YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. The name of the city was suffixed with a name of "jaya", which means "success".
But after choosing this site and starting the project, this city has picked its pace and now it stand as a model for modern infrastructure and beauty mingled with the beauty of nature that Malaysia always have presented to the world.
Places of Interest in Putrajaya
There are many sites that are developed specially for the visitors and you will enjoy these sites a lot. Following are some of those:
Putrajaya Wetlands
This is a very beautiful and an important component of Putrajaya. It is developed in 400-hectare Putrajaya Lake and the 197-hectare Wetlands. The lake is designed to cater for multi-functional uses including recreation, fishing, water sport and water transport.
Putra Bridge
This is considered as the most precious bridge in Putrajaya and is around 435 meters long. The bridge connects the Government Precinct at its north and the Mixed Development Precinct, at its south.
Putra Mosque
There are two main features of this mosque: its color and its site. Three quarter of the beautiful desert pink mosque floats on Putrajaya Lake. This reflects the evolution of mosque design in Malaysia, with its Islamic-inspired architecture taking into account traditional design elements and craftsmanship, local materials and weather conditions.
The model of the mosque is inspired from a Persian Islamic architecture of the Safavid period with several elements derived from other Islamic cultures such as Morocco.
Prime Minister's Office Complex
Prime Minister's Office Complex, is a natural stone clad building located 50 meters above sea level and overlooks Putrajaya Lake, Dataran Putra and Putra Mosque. The architecture of the building is a beautiful combination of strong European influences overlaid by Malay and Islamic elements.
Cyberjaya
Cyberjaya, knows as the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), is an area of 15 km by 50 km running south of the Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC) to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), and have excellent telecommunications and information tenchnolgy infrastructure to induce information technology and multimedia companies to settle down in the Cyberjaya.
KLIA
This airport, the new Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang, is one of the largest in the world, and also one of the most advanced in the world. It has around 120m high air traffic control tower, reputedly one of the tallest in the world, directs departures and arrivals on the twin 4,000m long runways.
